Nepal is a travel destination like no others. Visiting this geographically and culturally diverse country will surprise you.
Nepal is best known for the awe-inspiring Himalayas, Mt. Everest and its amazing treks. It is home to 8 of the 14 eight-thousanders and it has countless peaks above 6-7000m. “Mountains behind mountains behind mountains!”
But Nepal has so much more to offer than high mountains.
Kathmandu is a bustling and colourful city with 7 UNESCO World Heritage sites. Such as, Bouddhanath, the largest Buddhist stupa in the world; and Pashupatinath temple, one of the four most important religious sites in Asia for devotees of the Hindu God Shiva, where every evening, locals gather to watch the ancient ritual of Aarati performed with oil lamps, dancing and chanting by the Bagmati River.
Mustang is an arid alpine desert which, both culturally and geographically, is more similar to Tibet than Nepal and once was its own kingdom, with its capital in Lo Manthang. It is now a restricted region and a true jump back in time.
If you think that’s not enough, the south of Nepal is a sub tropical plain home to endangered species.
One-horned rhinoceros, Bengal tigers, leopards, Gharial crocodiles, countless birds, elephants and deer live here, protected by the vast jungles of the national parks of Bardiya and Chitwan.
Lumbini, again in the south, is a pilgrimage site of upmost importance being the birthplace of Buddha. It is one of the most important religious and historical sites in Nepal, with its peaceful atmosphere and significant archaeological finds dating from the third century BC.
Nepal also has a rich cultural scene with festivals almost every month. Such as the Festival of Light, when all the houses are covered in lights and rangolis are drawn in front of their entrances, and Holi, when people cover themselves with colour while singing and dancing, and many more.
Want to get adventurous? Nepal is a paradise for outdoor sports, that include rafting, paragliding, bungee jumping, canyoning, zip lining and so much more.
And last but not least the wonderful people of Nepal. Known to be hospitable and generous hosts, light-hearted yet engaging, they make this country a must do for every traveller.
So no matter what type of trip you’re looking for or time of year you choose to visit, we promise you that you’ll have an unforgettable experience in Nepal!
